Longer, slightly softer more linear spring that is captive in the spring seat even when using the longest recommended shock. By having a spring that is not only captive but the linear rate at full extension you have good ground pressure even when at near full flex, which dramatically adds to vehicle stability when offroad. The other major benefit of the longer, slightly softer rate is the far superior ride quality. A short hard spring transmits forces from bumps back into the vehicle much more and doesn't allow the shock to actually do its jobs of controlling the motion of the suspension.
